So, an interesting journey brought me to playing golf my senior year of High School. I'm a 4 sport Varsity athlete (Soccer, Basketball, Lacrosse and now golf!). Last spring, I had to have ankle surgery to take care of an injury that had been lingering most of my junior year. Based on the timing of the surgery, I was not going to be cleared for soccer in time for the fall '24 season. My doctors said I could do a low impact sport like golf though. So for most of the summer, while wearing a walking boot I was able to work on my short game and eventually head out onto the course. I grew up around golf, going to the driving range with my dad and playing 9 holes a few times a summer. But I never competed in the sport. That all changed this fall season. I tried out for the team, and played well enough to make the varsity team as our #2 player. Early on in the season, I was holding my own, scoring average was in the upper 40's, lower 50's. But I was hooked on the competitive side of the sport I didn't really know existed. I became a "range rat"... practicing after practice, practicing after matches. Over the last few weeks, I have been medalist in 7 matches, finished 12th out of a 100 players in a tournament, broke 40 twice in a match and now have my scoring average down to a 43 over the last 7 matches.
I have discovered a real passion for golf and the test it provides every time I tee off. I like the team aspect, I had always thought it was more of an individual sport and have been pleasantly surprised. I am excited to explore the possibilities of continuing play at the collegiate level and am looking for a school that will help me achieve my academic goals as well as develop my skills as a player and a teammate.
