Hello,
My name is Marina Marusic and I am a student-athlete from Cleveland, Ohio interested in your college girls golf programs. I have been playing golf competitively for ten years, having my first program be a Junior Club program at my local country club, Quail Hollow Country Club from ages 7 to 12. Having this as my foundation, I was able to figure out the fundamentals and educate of golf from a young age. After this time, my love and devotions for golf grew and the idea of playing golf in college came to mind. I continued my golf education throughout the years that I grew out of junior golf and a more competitive field came. The first collegiate style program came into play, this being North Coast Junior Tour, NCTJ. This program started in the early 2000's exposing many golfers to the tournament style golf, myself included. At least twice a week in the months of April to end of July, mainly during the summer, I would set out to play at different golf course all around Northeast Ohio, walking eighteen holes for the duration of the morning. Starting off in this program in 2013, at age 13, I was able to learn how to pace myself while being under the physical pressure of walking 18 holes, yet still keeping a good score, and good sportsmanship at a young age. When first joining this program I was new and nervous in playing so my scoring was not nearly what it needed to be at, but as I am entering my fifth year this year I have now placed 8th out of 33 girls in the 16-18 girls age group. Having my average scoring from last season be a 86, this taking in the factors of consistently playing at course that I have never seen before nor hear of within Northeast Ohio, I was quite happy with the ending season.
To begin talking of my girls golf team at my high school, Lake Catholic High School, I have been on the varsity team since my Freshman year, my average scoring my first year being in the middle 90's for tournaments, it was a year of much change that I had to get use to in school and golf, consistently playing with girls that were older than I was. My GPA during that year was a 3.8 unweighted, and a 4.2 weighted, due to the honor classes I was taking. The next year, sophomore year, I became co-captain being in the second position in all matches and tournaments, maintaining the same ending GPA. Lastly, is this past season Junior year, I played in the first position, was team-captain and team MVP, my best score being an 82 during a season tournament. I was also lucky enough to make it the farthest in our school girls golf program into the states tournament, making it past sectionals as an individual, and placing 5th in districts individually, while maintaining the GPA of a 3.75 unweighted and 4.1 weighted taking honors and college level classes. I have very high hopes for the approaching summer league season and school season knowing that through the experience and practice that I have gained throughout the past years that will help me become the student-athletic I want and can become.
I do not have one specific school that I would like to go to but rather a list of what would be desirable. As being from Cleveland, Ohio and most of my family being from Ohio so I would mainly like to stay on the East side of America but I am not opposed to being somewhere out of the state of Ohio, somewhere in the northeastern or east regions of America. I have always wanted to go to a medium to big school, on a higher academic end, being in all honors my whole schooling career, I have always challenged myself to work as hard in school as in my golfing. The major I would like to stay close to is something within the medical field, close to nutrition, or something in Biochemistry, but if my major would change that is the first priority in finding what college that fits me academically.
My main goal for you, as a potential college coach, reading this statement on myself, is that you can see the passion that I have for achieving the best for myself academically and through golf, and it would an honor to bring that to a your college golf program.
Thank You very much,
Marina Ivana Marusic
