Hello, My name is Destiny Rome, and I can honestly say that I've fallen in love with golf. For 9 years I played soccer, but when my mother and I were seriously injured in an accident involving a semi-truck, I lost my passion for the game, after facing devastating injuries. I have also played basketball for six years, my Freshman year being the first where I played several games as a part of the varsity team, and my Sophomore year being my first year officially on the varsity team. Last summer, my brother taught me the fundamentals of golf in our backyard, and from that point, I was hooked. Last year I joined my school's varsity team. I practiced with the team and was a forecaddie for several matches, so I could gain as much experience as possible. I have come a long way since that first backyard lesson. This year, with hard work and dedication, I have continuously improved and would love the opportunity to continue to play this amazing game in college. I plan to major on a Premed track so that I can reach my career goal of becoming a reconstructive plastic surgeon. As an honors student, academics have always been my priority. Unfortunately, when I was in seventh grade my mother and I became victims of domestic violence, which began a four-year custody battle. My once perfect grades were nonexistent; however, I was able to persevere through this and have raised my grades into something to be proud of. Through this experience I learned to persevere through adversity I will face in my life. I also was drawn closer to and my faith was increased in God since I had to fully rely on Him to supply all my needs. Now, I mentor and tutor inner-city children who have broken relationships with their fathers. I teach them all I have learned through my personal experiences and serve as a guide to help them on the road to becoming a healthy and successful adult. I enjoy leading worship through singing on my school’s worship team, singing and serving with Resounding Joy (honors traveling choir that serves in the community and takes a yearly missions trip during spring break around the country), creating art through various mediums, and customizing/designing shoes for a variety of sports.
