Hi, my name is Rebecca Short. I am 5’8” and weigh 130 lbs. Currently, I have 3.4 GPA and scored a 21 on the ACT. I have been playing golf since I was in the eighth grade. In high school, I tried out for and made the Varsity golf team as a freshman. Since my freshman year, I have been able to lower my score by an average of 5 - 7 strokes per year. My current average per round is 94, with my low being a 43, for nine holes, and an 89 for eighteen, this year. In addition to hitting my drives further; I was averaging 250 yards off the tee, 20 yards further than my Junior year, I have hit more fairways per round. Also, I was able to control the ball around the greens better, hit more GIR’s, and improved my putting. At Sectional‘s, I received First Honorable Mention, and missed moving to the next level, District’s, by just one stroke. Throughout my tenure on the high school golf team, I have worked as a team leader, assisting my younger classmates with various situations; not excluding rules interpretation, and how to play the ball in certain situations. Our team was quite inexperienced and, as such, I was viewed as a mentor with some of the younger players. At practice, I often stayed late to assist my teammates, and develop my game. As a young team last year, we learned to be humble in defeat against the stronger, older teams. That is not easy for me, for I am a tough competitor, and don’t like to lose.
Among other activities, I have been taking dance classes since I was four years old. I have been awarded Gold and Platinum medals in two National Dance Team Competitions. I am proud to mention that, in June 2010, I was awarded 10th overall in the Dance Solo category. I also enjoy swimming, and being with my friends. My mom and dad are great supporters of me, but my biggest fan is my little brother.
The type of school that I am interested in is one that can provide me with a great educational experience, where I can also enjoy the amenities of college life. I would prefer not to attend a large school, but would be open to any possible opportunities, and am not averse to being at a school away from home. If possible, I would like to attend a school in a warm climate where I could play golf all year. As for my major, I am undecided at this time, but I am leaning towards the medical field, possibly in nursing or physical therapy. I would welcome the opportunity to play as a freshman, but understand that is not always an option and, therefore, will support my team, regardless.
I feel with my experience and ability, I can make an impact on your team and will contribute to your team’s success.
Thank you for reading my profile. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Rebecca Short
