Hi coaches,
My name is Caroline Kane and I am a senior at Pickerington North High School in Pickerington Ohio. Until about two weeks before tryouts this year I had not played for over a year. At the end of my sophomore year, I thought I injured my back and went to sports medicine, physical therapists, and chiropractors and nothing helped. I finally went to an orthopedic doctor and found out the problem was actually my hip. He told me I had a torn labrum and that I also had hip dysplasia. My first surgery was June 19, 2017 and was an arthroscopic surgery to repair my tear. This surgery was outpatient and afterward, I was on crutches for a month. My second surgery was July 25, 2017, and was a periacetabular osteotomy to correct my hip dysplasia. They broke my pelvis in three places and rearranged it to fit my socket better and then secured it with four titanium screws. This was an open surgery where I stayed in the hospital for four days. After this surgery, I was on a walker for two weeks and crutches for five months. In January of 2018 when I finally thought I was about to be cleared again, the pain came back. On March 19, 2018, I had my final surgery. This was an arthroscopy to place a cadaver tissue graft where my labrum used to be since it was torn too badly and did not heal. This surgery was outpatient as well as the first one and I was on crutches for another month. Keep in mind that even though I did have three hip surgeries, they were all for one problem. Prior to my injury, I was playing in the number one position on the varsity team as a sophomore. My sophomore year I received first team all OCC honors as well as third team all-district honors. Now my senior year, I am back playing in the number one position of my team. So far this season I have shot a 79 in my first two OCC tournaments at Cook’s Creek Golfers Club and Mentel Memorial Golf Course. Prior to my third OCC, I shot a 75 in the New Albany Fall Open at Cook’s Creek Golfers Club. At my third OCC, I shot a 77 at Westchester Golf Course. I had a rough day my last OCC at Royal American Golf Course and ending up shooting an 82. Even with my bad day, I ended up making first team all OCC and was the second lowest scorer. In my two nine-hole matches at Raymond Memorial golf course, I shot a 37 and 36. I feel that I would be a great asset to any college golf team. I know what it takes to overcome hardships and bounce back. I more determined now than ever. Academic wise, I am very strong. My cumulative GPA is a 4.316 and I scored a 30 on my ACT.
