My name is Taylor Dunkle. I am a 17 year old junior at Springboro High School, in southwest Ohio. I have been playing golf for nearly 8 years, have been the low scorer on my high school team each year since I was a freshman, and am interested in pursuing college golf.
My current GHIN handicap is 3.6. My junior season average was 78 with a low score of 71 (one under par), and my goal is to shoot in the low 70s consistently this off season. In school I am taking primarily honors, AP and college credit plus classes, and have a 3.77 GPA.
Being part of a team and working together with others is important to me, and I love competing. I grew up close to my great grandmother, hearing stories about how she played on the boy’s high school golf team in the 30’s and played in what eventually became the first women’s NCAA golf tournament. These stories prompted me to begin participating in golf clinics at 8 years old. My younger sister and I began competing in 2019, and playing together on the varsity golf team this year was a special experience.
Golf has provided me an opportunity to grow both as a person and to carry on a legacy. Competing from a young age has taught me to be independent, to effectively handle stress, to interact with both peers and adults, and to focus on both physical and mental strength. I am looking forward to playing golf as a way to continue to grow, while also building strong bonds with my teammates and pursuing a degree in a math or science related field.
