I have been playing golf for three years as of June, 2019. In this time, I have improved my stroke average by over 30 strokes. My current tournament average is 78, and I believe my scoring potential is still in front of me. I practice every day, and I continue to improve my practice regimen by using what I learn from my high school coaches and swing coach. This fall, I will continue to give greater attention to my physical development through regular and coordinated cardiovascular and weight training. I will be playing in 4 competitive, multiple-day tournaments this fall in addition to 4 high school tournaments. I will post my fall schedule and results on NCSA.
My swing coach is Buck Mayers at Escondido Golf Course in Horseshoe Bay, Texas. Since beginning my relationship with him, I have increased my swing speed by 10 miles per hour, and this has translated to longer drives and a much higher percentage of greens in regulation. I have also recently incorporated jet sticks into my practice regimen, which also contributes to my increasing swing speed. Buck also provides video swing analysis for me to use in between lessons.
I was recently initiated into the National Honor Society. My grades are important to me, so the academic side of recruiting is equally serious in my search for the right college. My current GPA is 3.8 unweighted. During my junior year, I took four AP and college-level courses, and I maintained all As in all my courses. I plan to continue a rigorous course schedule my senior year by taking AP government and AP calculus.
My family is active at the local methodist church. We are fortunate to share a church with my grandparents, so in my free time, I spend time with family at my grandparents farm and garden. My siblings and I spend time every year helping them prepare and maintain their garden. I am also an active volunteer in my community. I have devoted over 50 hours to the local Mobile Loaves and Fishes group, where my best friend and I regularly go and prepare food for the Austin homeless community.
I want to play college golf for a team that pushes me to be a stronger golfer and better person. I want to grow as a golfer, so I am looking for a team that has very strong competition. I come from a very competitive high school golf team in Texas, so qualifiers have been a major part of my mental and skill development.
I come from a long line of educators, and it is my goal to pursue a degree in education. I would like to continue my education by earning a masters degree after I complete my undergraduate degree. My mom recently completed her PhD in educational policy from the University of Texas at Austin, so life-long learning has been modeled in my home.
