My name is Amanda Gow and I am a senior at the Bush School in Seattle, Washington.
Throughout my life, I have played many sports, and have learned that to be a good athlete, you must have a strong mentality. With my extensive training in both golf and rhythmic gymnastics, I have learned to have to work hard to achieve my goals. Competing at the State, Regional and National levels for rhythmic gymnastics, I have built a mental strength that has served me greatly when things didn't always go well.
In my first year in Varsity golf, I was the only freshman player on my school team to play at the Emerald City League (All League, 1st team), Bi-districts and State Championship. At WA State, despite being one of the few freshman players, I qualified in the top 40 and finished at a respectable 27th place.
Due to COVID-19, I was not able to have a sophomore season.
In my Junior year, I was fortunate enough to be named captain of my varsity golf team. I was able to mentor the underclass men, which brought out the best of me as a leader, and my team as a whole. During our school matches, I earned medalist honors twice, shooting the lowest score, which propelled my team to victory of the match. At the end of the season, I placed 4th in our ESC Championship tournament. Placing 4th gave me the honor of being selected for first team. As a new addition to our school‘s accomplishments, I was nominated as the teammate of the year. I was also awarded the Coach’s Award, “for outstanding achievement and contribution to the team”.
Aside from being active in sports, I go to The Bush School, which is a nationally and locally known school for having rigorous academic work. With a solid 3.92 GPA, I am able to balance both athletics (golf and rhythmic gymnastics) and schoolwork due to my excellent time management skills. I have the focus and drive to achieve academically and athletically and to also be a team player.
I hope to study sports medicine or physical therapy, with a minor in world languages.
I appreciate the time you took to read about me as an athlete and as a student. Thank you.
