Personal Statement
My name is Tegan Craggs, I am 15 years old and I live in Leeds, which is in the UK. I graduate from High School in 2026 and I train at Leeds Gymnastics Club. The US student-athlete system is one I greatly admire for the huge opportunities it offers sports people to combine their sport with studies and my ambition is to attend College in the USA, to continue my gymnastics career whilst undertaking my studies, too.
In October 2023, I competed in my first FIG competition which was the FIG British Team Championships, where we placed 5th AA in the senior category. During this competition season, I also competed in the British National Finals (after securing a place in the Yorkshire team in a previous competition) and achieved 1st on bars.
Previous to this, I have competed in five British Gymnastics National Finals. In December 2022, I was AA National Champion at the Bronze Classic Challenge National Finals.
I completed my British Gymnastics grades in 2023, and am now working at a level similar to a level 9 in the US.
I have been working extremely hard over this past year and I was awarded the Leeds Gymnastics Club ‘Women’s Artistic Outstanding Effort and Dedication 2023’ at the most recent awards evening. At the moment, I am building up routines for my next competition which will be in July.
Regarding my academics - I have just finished my public exams (GCSE’s) where I sat exams in Maths, English Literature, English Language, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Religious Studies, French, Physical Education and Art. If the results of my GCSE’s are similar to my mock examinations, my GPA would be approximately 3.3 . Next academic year, I hope to study Psychology, Photography and Physical Education at Advanced-Level which I am really excited for!
Outside of academics and gymnastics I enjoy photography and volunteering which I worked on for six months to earn my Duke of Edinburgh award, and have continued with this. In school, I am a Student Leader.
I would relish the opportunity to study in the USA whilst training and competing in the sport that I love! I believe I can positively contribute college gymnastics team dynamics with my supportive attitude and lively personality. I always strive to be the best gymnast and person I can, and would love to be part of a great team, surrounded by like-minded, determined athletes.
