Personal Statement
Hello All,
My name is Kanna Asano and a student-athlete gymnast graduating in the year 2022. I was born and raised in Orange Country, California where I call home. I recently moved to Tokyo, Japan which was difficult, but definitely not impossible with the support of my family, teachers, and coaches. As gymnastics is much more different here in Tokyo than I was used to at Gym-Max Gymnastics in Costa Mesa, California, I have found that my experience training at such a small facility and with great coaching staff, honor and fell in love with the sport all over again. I competed at the All-Japan Junior competition twice since I have moved to Japan, but with the effects of covid, it was very difficult for us to have any other additional competition outside of our ' in-house competitions'. As of school, I attend the International School of the Sacred Heart, one of many around the world. I am very grateful to attend the school I go to as it is an American-based school system, but I do feel that from my experience here in Tokyo the school curricular have been a lot more difficult than when I attended school in California. Our school is academically strong and because I was intrigued by the biology course, I decided to take a challenge with the AP Biology class. Though it was an extremely hard course, I was proud of myself for finding that this course was not quite for me and that I completed it without giving up. This is just one example of many that I have learned since I have moved to Japan. To adapt is not something that everyone has to go through, but to get to know myself better and improve I found that I had to make mistakes and get over large hurdles to get myself to the next course of my life which is university. I look forward to talking to different colleges and coaches more about my experiences and because I would love to be back in America to train with a group of other passionate gymnasts who enjoy cheering and improving just as much as I am. Thank you for your time to read this
