Making the Thompson Okanagan Female AAA team in my second-year midget was a huge achievement for me as a goalie. It gave me the opportunity to take my game to the next level and to develop my skills even further. More importantly, not making the team my first two years of trying out gave me the motivation I needed to work as hard as I possibly could on and off the ice. These two years of constant battling and training also forced me to develop the habit of always giving a 100% effort. Growing up watching my older brother play hockey definitely influenced my decision to start playing myself. Even though I didn’t start playing until my first-year peewee, I instantly fell in love with the sport and my position. Hockey has taught me a lot about myself and a lot about life. Through hockey, I learned how to be a supportive team member, a positive role model, and to never give up in any situation. This sport has also highlighted my coachability, time management, and determination to improve.
The main obstacle I have had to overcome is my size. I am not the biggest goalie, but what I lack in size I make up for with my speed and textbook technique. As I work hard to gain experience and develop myself as a goalie I am also continuing to build both my mental and physical strength. I will also continue to work on saving high shots and being more aggressive in my play. I really appreciate great coaching to help me become the best hockey player I can be.
As a student-athlete, academics are my top priority. One goal of mine is to continue to maintain a 4.0 GPA throughout high school. My high marks and exceptional teamwork skills will also strongly contribute to my success in any nursing program. Not only am I looking for the right program for me athletically, but also a program that will meet my academic needs. I believe that with my determination, positivity, and enthusiasm I will be able to make an extensive impact on both your academic and athletic programs.
Thank you!
