My name is Anna May and I am 2004 born, elite-level goaltender who catches left. This season I am the starting goaltender for the Pacific Steelers, a team within the Junior Women's Hockey League (JWHL). I am determined to attend a post-secondary institution that will foster my love of learning and push me academically while also continuing to play at a high level of hockey at the USport or NCAA level. I am passionate about all aspects of life surrounding a student-athlete and am looking to be a part of a team that will support me to grow holistically as a person and athlete.
The biggest attributes that I bring as a team player are positivity, a strong work ethic, a high compete level, dedication, and compassion. I strive to be the very best teammate, student, leader, and individual I can be with everything I do. As a player, I can be identified through my attention to detail, speed, grit, awareness, hockey sense/IQ, and flexibility. I am constantly working to improve every aspect of my game to become the best goalie I can be. This means countless hours of video review and classroom sessions, lots of time in the gym doing movement-specific exercises, lots of private sessions with some of the top coaches in the province, and lots of reps.
I attend Crofton House School, a university preparatory school located in Vancouver, B.C. Through highly rigorous academic courses I've been able to maintain A Standing Honour Roll for the duration of my high school career (grades 8-12) and currently have a GPA of 3.9. I look to enter the world of STEM, specifically focusing on Health Sciences. Being an athlete injury has been a big part of my life so a career within human kinetics is very appealing to me. I want to be able to give back and help those who need it while also furthering my knowledge surrounding the human body.
Growing hockey has always been a big part of my life. The majority of my hockey career was spent playing for my local team, the Richmond Ravens. I always had the opportunity to play for Elite Level select spring teams (BC Selects, Kodiak-Selects) and attend many high-level showcases (CCM World Invitational, AAA North American Showcase). The unfortunate timing of injuries never gave me the opportunity to take my play to the next level as I dreamed of, until signing with the Steelers this past season. I've been able to play at a level that pushes me to become the best athlete I can be, on and off the ice.
