2019 HighlightsPersonal Statement
My name is Lia Poggio and I have been playing hockey since I was 4 years old. Since that age I've always inspired to play for a college team. In 2017 my father was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and died while at a regional USA Hockey tryout in 2018. I honor his memory each and every time I step on the Ice. It was his dream as well as mine for me to play college hockey. I am a stronger person for going through that time.
As a player I am a strong defenseman who isn't afraid to get physical, especially when protecting my goalie. I am also a team player, highly coachable, and hardworking. I am able to see the ice well and effectively able to stop the advancement of the puck.
Besides from hockey I am musically talented and can play a wide variety of instruments such as the saxophone and the bass guitar. Before leaving home to play hockey, I also played travel softball.

- The Stars Elite Gilrs U20 Tier I program at the Hockey Training Institute is represented by players from around the world, who possess the skill level necessary to compete against the top U20 competition and NCAA and CIS universities from Canada and the US. HTI is a proud member of the Ontario Women’s Hockey Association (OWHA) and Hockey Canada.
