Personal Statement

My name is Mera; I am a sophmore student at Culver Girls Academy in Culver, Indiana, and I am driven to pursue competitive collegiate hockey.

Starting with my years with the Tecumseh Eagles, where I experienced being both conference and OMHA Champions and finishing in the bottom of the bracket, to my recent role with the Lakeshore Lightning, where we secured the Southwest Division and became OWHA Provincial Champions, to my current Culver Eagles team, I have developed the discipline, determination, and grit necessary to be successful.

I consciously and deliberately work to hone my skills to be a dynamic force on the ice.  I have the finesse required to create space in the defensive zone, the tenacity to dominate the boards, explosive skating, and the ability to distribute the puck from the point or drive deep into the offensive zone to contribute as an assist maker and goal scorer. I don't give up - I play physically to the whistle and rarely take penalties (2 total penalties in the 2023-2024 season).  These skills have enabled me to be a key contributor on both power play and penalty kill lines.

My relentless pursuit of excellence in hockey has instilled time management and goal-setting skills, which seamlessly transition to my academic life. At my grade 8 graduation, I received top honors in four subjects, held the highest academic standing, and served as Valedictorian. Last year, in grade nine, I achieved an overall A+ average, equivalent to a 4.0 GPA. I am committed to maintaining this strong academic record, emphasizing my ability to excel both on the ice and in the classroom as a dedicated student-athlete.

I have spent countless hours, and will continue to dedicate time to develop and improve my skills and conditioning not only because I am passionate about hockey, but because I love the sport.  You can see my dedication on my Tik Tok account (@CDNhockeygirl).  Thank-you for taking the time to consider me for your school.  I will do everything I can to exceed your expectations.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
