Hi, my name is Maxine Mass and I am currently playing for the Omaha Lady Jr. Lancers 19U Tier 2 team. I am very committed to my team and the sport of hockey. I started playing when I was 5 or 6 years old for a local IP program in Omaha. I did not start playing girls hockey until after mites. Since then, I've played for the same organization, the Omaha Lady Jr. Lancers. I like to play a selfless game and make plays to help my teammates. I also really like to get physical along the boards and in the corners whenever there's a loose puck which is probably my favorite part of the game. Throughout my career so far, I've been taught by many types of coaches. Because of that, I have not only learned new skills and systems but also how to be a good teammate and what my role is for the team.
In the upcoming season, I look forward to participating after training hard throughout this summer. For 10 weeks and 5 days each week, I trained for 2 hours of on-ice skills, an hour of strength and conditioning, and an hour of shooting/stick handling which is more training than I've done in years past. With that amount of training and new knowledge of the game, I felt more empowered than I ever have to pursue hockey. I hope to play my best season of hockey this year and to continue to grow with what I've learned and am going to learn in the coming years.
In recent years, I've become disciplined throughout my academics while also balancing sports giving me the time management skills needed in order to play a collegiate sport. I am in many college credit classes with a local community college which will put me ahead of some of my colleagues for when I attend college.
As a player, I will train to be the best I can so that I can play to the highest level I can, while also getting my school work done, and having a backup plan for after hockey. I hope to gain a better understanding of where I might fit in the game and of the game itself. This past summer I learned way more than I have in the past and I'm excited to see what else there is to learn. Hockey is definitely something I want to be an ambassador for in the future for my community as well as the women's community. With that being said, I would like to have more experience myself. I am open to any opportunity out there.
All the best,
Maxine Mass
