Dear coaches,
Since I can remember, my mind has been set towards college hockey., from as early as Novice Advance playing for the TASA Bulldogs as a defenceman. I remember having immense admiration for the University players, their drive, aspiration, work ethic and leadership inspired me from that time and set my path to what I wanted to achieve. My love for hockey is something I want to continue as I pursue a degree.
I feel that playing Midget AAA hockey as prepared me to balance the workload of academics with practice, games and travel. I am working hard in school this year, doing extra tutoring, and intend on dedicating myself to improve in both hockey and academics.
I am working really hard on managing a very tight schedule to ensure I achieve everything I set my heart to. My attributes have led me to great success off and on the ice. I have worked tirelessly over the year to better myself as a hockey player but more importantly to become a great person that respects one and all.
What makes me different from others is my desire to see everyone play their best and love the game. It's important to win games, but there are times you encounter a faster, better, stronger team. The value and / or lesson is in asking yourself if you played your best, if you left it all on the ice, if you played as a team and are proud of your attitude during the game, even in defeat. Positivity and respect are two very important things you should always give your teammates and your coaches. I feel if you are interested in college hockey, you have a skill that you will ALWAYS be developing, but your attitude and your respect towards your teammates and coaches are also things that should always be present and consistent at all times.
I believe that a real athlete will stand still and figure out a solution to every problem. This is where I differentiate myself from others; I am the one person that won't leave or forget without having the right answer. I might be a hard worker, but the best adjectives to describe me are committed, dedicated, determined and conscientious .
My traits have led me to numerous athletic awards, none for academics yet but as stated above my mindset will get me there, I am positive of that.
I represented Nova Scotia in the last 5 years: in 2017 at the U16 (as a 13 year old), in 2018 at the U18 Level as a 14 year old of which I was the last defenceman to get cut for the Canada Games, kept on working hard and made U16 in 2019. In both 2018 and 2019, I helped Nova Scotia capture gold at the Atlantic Challenge Cup and was also selected to the U18 in 2021 but unfortunately due to COVID the Atlantic Challenge Cup was cancelled. In 2017, I attended the RUSH College Showcase in Brampton, Ontario and was chosen for the AllStar team.
All of these experiences have confirmed that I am right where I want to be. As I continue to pursue my academic and athletic goals, I am committed to being a strong contributor and leader to my team and coaches. I really hope to leave college as an alumni that my teachers and coaches would be proud of, and as someone who takes that same work ethic on and of the ice to my future career and beyond.
