Personal Statement

Even at a very young age hockey has always been a large part of my life.   Growing up in a hockey family, I was immersed in the sport for as  long as I can remember.   Watching high level hockey in everyday life helped form my love for the sport.  When I started playing hockey I quickly realized there's more to it than just reward.   I quickly learned the importance of perseverance and teamwork through all the ups and downs of playing the game.   These skills have allowed me to develop as a leader on and off the ice.   I feel that being a good leader is what makes up a good athlete and these skills have assisted me to help lead and guide my teammates to perform their best, which is an important asset on a high performance team.   As a goalie, I strive to consistently provide defensively support to my team.  I have been a rep goalie for the past 4 years, and I believe my strong compete level allows me to develop and learn very quickly.  Work ethic is critical in order to be successful.   I believe that as an athlete I should play hard, and practice even harder.   I strive to always challenge myself to better my on and off ice skills and improve as a goalie.  Performing in a goalie position can be an extremely stressful and there are always many mental obstacles to overcome. Throughout my experience, I’ve learned how to mentally handle these obstacles by maintaining a positive mindset.  This ability has allowed me to support and lead my team to bounce back from adversity.

As a student, I strive to always apply myself to learn the material to the best of my abilities.   I feel that playing hockey has also improved my work ethic in school by teaching me how to be a hardworking and dedicated individual.  I believe education is very important as a way to grow and learn as a person.  I always strive to be a good student who is always ready to learn more.  I am constantly working to achieve my goal of graduating on the high school honour roll.   As a student, I believe application and hard work are the two most important aspects of learning.  In addition, maintaining good grades is important for me as it shows character and work ethic.  Receiving a good college education is essential to me as it will provide me with the knowledge and skills to aid others upon graduation.  Giving back to others has always been an important part of my life because I feel that everyone who needs help deserves help.  By obtaining a proper education in order to enter into the workforce, I will be able to achieve my goal of helping those in need.

Being a student athlete has always been a goal for me.  Since I began playing hockey,  I have always aspired to play not only for my love of the game and the on ice competition, but also to be a good role model to others and show young girls that their goals can be achieved if they commit.  While volunteering to help young girls learn how to play hockey, I learned the importance of being a strong female role model and how I can help influence and shape future female and male athletes.  Due to the fact that I am a female athlete playing in a male dominant sport, I have received many discriminative comments from individuals. This has only driven me to persevere and show others that anyone can work hard to achieve their goals no matter who you are.  Hockey has shaped me into the person I am today.  It has taught me how to be a good leader that others can look up to and to have a proper work ethic.  In addition to learning discipline, responsibility and perseverance, hockey has also shown me the importance of teamwork and building relationships with others; skills which are critical to succeeding in and outside of hockey.  I am looking for a program that will suit me athletically and academically.  I believe that as an individual, I will not only be a great addition to your team, but my talent, leadership, and work skills will help your team and I become a stronger and better together.

  • I started training with M power hockey at the beginning of off season 2019. This was my first time attending any type of goalie training, prior to attending M-power I was completely self taught. I was lucky enough to attend the M-Power and Gary Roberts High Intensity Training Camp during the summer of 2019, I was training among many Jr A goalies, NCAA/ NCAA committed goalies, and pro goalies. Being exposed to this level of compete strengthened my love for the game and elevated my compete levels.
