Personal Statement

My name is Mera, a ninth-grader at St. Anne’s High School in Windsor, Ontario, Canada and I am driven to pursue competitive collegiate hockey.

Starting with my years with the Tecumseh Eagles, where I experienced being both conference and OMHA Champions and finishing in the bottom of the bracket, to my recent role with the Lakeshore Lightning, where we secured the Southwest Division and became OWHA Provincial Champions, to my current AA Windsor Wildcats team, I have developed the discipline, determination, and grit necessary to be successful.

I consciously and deliberately work to hone my skills to be a dynamic force on the ice.  I have the finesse required to create space in the defensive zone, the tenacity to dominate the boards, explosive skating, and the ability to distribute the puck from the point or drive deep into the offensive zone to contribute as an assist maker and goal scorer. I don't give up - I play physically to the whistle and rarely take penalties (2 total penalties in the 2022-2023 season).  These skills have enabled me to be a key contributor on both power play and penalty kill lines.

My relentless pursuit of excellence in hockey has instilled time management and goal-setting skills, which seamlessly transition to my academic life. At my grade 8 graduation, I received top honors in four subjects, held the highest academic standing, and served as Valedictorian. I am committed to maintaining this strong academic record, emphasizing my ability to excel both on the ice and in the classroom as a dedicated student-athlete.

I have spent, and will continue to spend, countless hours developing and improving my skills and conditioning, both on and off the ice, which you can see if you look at my Tik Tok account (@CDNhockeygirl). Thank you for taking the time to consider my profile; please be assured that I will do everything I can to exceed your expectations.
