I was supposed to graduate in 2021 but am taking an extra year due to the pandemic and will be a 2022 grad.
I am searching for a school that will help me obtain the academic knowledge and skills to pursue my career in health and sports medicine, while continuing my passion for playing hockey at a competitive level.
I started playing hockey as a young girl, and was always the smallest on my team. I had to work harder and prove myself more than anyone else. It wasn’t until my hockey coach on a USA summer team I joined came to my family as we were about to leave from our final game. That is when things really changed for me. The coach looked at me and said- "Kid, you have the speed, the passion, the drive and the skills." With tears in my eyes, I replied back, "But I am small." She said no you are not, you make up for size in everything else that you bring to the game. Don’t ever let anyone tell you you are too small and or let that inhibit you. From that point on I vowed to never be down on myself for things I can’t control but work very hard on the things I can. Like my skills, speed, endurance, health and of course my academics.
I have always obtained a first class honours, 4.0 GPA through public school and high school.
I was valedictorian of my grade 8 graduating class and won awards for high academic achievement and the French award. I continue to study hard, have great relationships with all of my teachers and my coaches. I have also held a part-time job while studying hard and playing hockey, which has taught me good time management and life long skills of hard work and determination,
I have been told that I am very coachable - pushing myself to advance in all aspects on and off the ice whether it is in the classroom, in the gym doing my workout with my trainer or on the ice with my coaches and teammates. I am very respectful and take constructive criticism very well.
Having faced challenges that were out of my control, while maintaining a positive attitude and outlook on life - school, hockey and the diligence to which I put into everything, makes me the type of hockey player/student that would be an asset to any college or university. My dream is to graduate school with a career in my field of health and sports medicine while fulfilling another lifelong dream of playing hockey for as long as I possibly can.
