For as long as I can remember, hockey has been a huge part of my life. Having my older brother playing hockey definitely had an influence and motivated me to start getting on the ice at a very young age. I loved being on the ice and have taken every chance I get to be on the ice. I have always been a hard worker and very dedicated when it comes to sports but mainly hockey, since I was always so eager to learn and become better at something I was very passionate about.
Hockey has taught me many values over the years. It has taught me discipline, the worth of working with others but most importantly that “hard work does pay off”. Every opportunity on the ice I take full advantage of to work on my “game”. Since going into my last few years of minor hockey I have gained the importance of giving your best effort on and off the ice and making sure to never give up… along with this making sure my teammates are doing the same thing as me. With hockey as part of my “escape from reality” I make sure to prepare myself before every game by getting into the right mindset, eating the right food, and making sure I always get a good night's sleep before I play. Ever since I was little I have always put my heart and soul on the ice so I enjoy being surrounded by teammates who have a just as strong passion for the sport as I do.
Growing up I played boys hockey so I had to learn to be a strong player. I was playing defence my whole boys career and once I switched to an all girls team I got moved to the centre position. Since then, I have shifted to about every position but goalie. With great speed I am able to backcheck hard and get back to my position if I get stuck in the opponent's end. Another great feature I love with my speed is that I am able to get a few rushes with the puck to get shots on the net for my team and get chances to score.
All in all, I truly love playing hockey and I love the competitive side of the sport. With each game is another chance for me to excel and put in the lessons I have learned from past games into practices. My goal for the future is to continue to play at the highest level and hopefully get the opportunity to pursue this passion at the college and/or university level.
