Dear Coaches,
I'm Maddy O'Brien, a grade 11 student at Holy Name of Mary College School in Mississauga, ON. I've been playing hockey for half of my life. I love it. For the 2019/2020 season, I am playing for the Etobicoke Dolphins Midget AA team, and this will be my second year with the team. For the 2020/2021 season I will be playing Junior hockey. I've played defence for my entire playing career. However, I have played some forward over the past two seasons and I am capable of filling in for many different scenarios, PP, PK, etc..
Offering me a place in your program means you are getting a dedicated, coachable player with elite speed, high hockey IQ and loads of upside potential. I still have a lot more that I can do in this game.
As a person and teammate, I'm compassionate and supportive. When my team is down, I'm usually the one that offers comfort and cheering up. This is true in hockey and outside of hockey. My friends and family are important and it is with their love and support that I'm able to pursue my dreams of playing hockey. I like new challenges and taking some risks and my transition to college life in the US will not be disruptive to my hockey development or education.
I maintain an 82% average, or a 3.3 GPA, while balancing studies with an intensive hockey program. In the off season, I play rep soccer to stay in shape. I do track and field, cross country, flag football and hockey at school, making me a well rounded athlete.
If I am so lucky to be considered for your program, I would welcome the opportunity to talk more about what you need in your program and whether or not I'm a good fit.
Sincerely,
Maddy O'Brien '21
