I have been playing hockey for the past 10 years and have been interested in the sport for as long as I can remember. I’ve had the opportunity to play at almost every level, from house league to Team Canada. As I'm now in my last year of high school, I would like to continue my athletic career playing hockey at the University level. Through my many years of play, I’ve had the chance to be an assistant captain and a role model for my teammates. Being in these positions have helped me develop my communication and leadership skills, while showing my passion for the game. I have been able to transfer my knowledge and leadership skills into multiple coaching roles, as I currently work for the Ottawa Senators Hockey Programs and have coached my school’s intermediate hockey team and club teams.
In my hockey career, I was the top scorer in 2015 and 2017. I was also the top scorer for a boys summer team that I joined in 2017. I have also had the opportunity to play for Team Canada in the 2017 IIHF Global Girls Game. My past coaches have told me that I bring a very positive attitude to the team, both on and off the ice. I have also been told that I am determined and competitive, never giving up and always pushing to score the next goal. I have always wanted to play at the highest levels of competition to push myself physically and mentally, and playing throughout university would give me a chance to push myself further.
Along with my athletic commitment, I have also been able to succeed academically. In grade 11, I achieved an 86.7% average while not only playing on my own competitive hockey team, but also playing on my school’s varsity field hockey team, coaching my school’s intermediate ice hockey team and working 10 hours a week. Teachers and coaches often applaud my time management skills and work ethic in order to achieve academic and athletic success.
I enjoy science courses and being active, and would like to pursue further education by completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education. Coaching and maintaining my personal fitness have helped me in making the decision to study Physical Education and eventually become a teacher.
