Personal Statement

As a 17 year old student athlete, sports have been such a huge part of my life since I was a young child. Hockey, softball, soccer, basketball, volleyball, you name it, I’ve done it. However, hockey is the one sport that I can truly say I love the most. Hockey is my passion and has impacted by life significantly. The game of hockey has helped to mould my personality and has provided me with the tools and characteristics which continue to help shape me into the player and person I aspire to become. I have been able to develop leadership skills in my role of team captain for 3 consecutive years. I have learned to effectively manage my time for my academics, athletic practices, games, tournaments and working at a part time job while continuing to maintain a 95% average at school. Hockey has provided me with the discipline needed on the ice to manage my emotions, to set short term and long term goals and to work hard to accomplish these goals. The game of hockey has also allowed me to develop communication skills, responsibility, perseverance, determination, co-operation, confidence and humility. As a person I want to be a strong, caring, kind and respectful person who my family and friends can count on for support. I also want to exhibit these characteristics for my hockey teammates and coaches. I strive to continuously develop my individual character and skills as a person and a hockey player, but also want to exemplify a team first approach on and off the ice. As a player I am always looking for the best way to help my team. Whether this be encouraging others in team building activities, personal training or during practices and games. I aspire to bring these qualities to a college hockey team and want to continue to learn and develop as a player and person. I hope to play hockey throughout my time as an undergraduate student pursuing a degree in medical sciences with my goal of one day having a career as a sports physiotherapist or physician.  I believe that my coachability, work ethic, desire to learn and improve, leadership skills and personal traits would make me a valuable addition to your team.
