Hello, my name is Sophie Kuzminski. I am described as a hard-working, coachable and determined player. My speed, my forecheck, as well as my stickhandling are a few of my most strongest assets that I bring to my team. My team had a very successful year, and I believe that success generated from how competitive we were with one another, pushing each other both on the ice and in the gym. This mentality we developed over the year won us the league, westerns and a trip to the Esso Cup. We may have lost in the semifinals, but the week I experienced was amazing. The previous week I competed for Team Saskatchewan in the National Aboriginal Hockey Championship in Membertou, Nova Scotia, tallying a total of 8 points in 8 games and playing for the bronze medal game. As for academics, I finished the year off with a 3.8 GPA, balancing between a vigorous hockey schedule, academics and extracurriculars. I am hoping to enter either pre-medicine or nursing to keep my options open and ultimately either branch off into pediatrics or surgery. Being at Notre Dame has taught me that details matter, and being able to implement that balance within in your life is important; trying different sports, volunteering and hanging out with friends. What ultimately makes me different from other recruits is my experience; I've learned to be away from home, what it means to be a team player, the sacrifice needed to win and that your attitude and work ethic set the foundation.
