I have always had high standards for myself, setting goals and working toward them. Early on my family has told me not to turn down a challenge and to dream big. I have always loved sports, and have played all different kinds throughout my life but hockey is the one that really spoke to me. I take as many opportunities as I can to get better, including goalie-specific hockey camps, playing for a split-season team, and staying fit with other sports. From the beginning up until now, I have had so much personal growth and it motivates me to keep going. Having a supportive relationship with my teammates and coaches is also very important, and has motivated me even more.
As I participate in my sports, I also take initiative academically. I keep up my grades and I'm not afraid to ask questions or get help when I need it. I specifically choose classes that will challenge me and prepare me for the future I hope to have in medicine, and my other interests like foreign language. My close relationships with my teachers have been important to my growth, and my medical professions class has helped me discover that I am interested in dentistry. I have already done job shadowing with local dental clinics, and this year I will get to shadow in oral surgery. As for foreign language, I am in my third German class and will be doing a German exchange. Outside of my class, I practice with apps and research cultural differences. One day I want to be fluent in German. In college, I will continue playing hockey and taking the steps toward eventually working in dentistry while pursuing my love for foreign language.
