My name is Makena Travis and I am a sophomore at Bonney Lake High School in Washington state. I grew up watching high level junior hockey as well as the NHL and have always been inspired by it. When I was six I started basic figure skating lessons, but knew I wanted more out of it. Then at the age of eight, I started learning how to play hockey. I grew to play boys hockey locally until I was 12, where I then transitioned to playing on a AA girls travel team. I had always been involved with girls programs but had never played on an all girls team. Getting that exposure changed my perspective of what my goals were in life. Hockey has always been my passion even though it hasn't been very big in my area. With the support of my private trainer, my coaches, my friends, and my family, I will continue to strive for my dream of playing womens college hockey while also getting a good education to become a nurse.
