I began playing lacrosse at a very young age as a box lacrosse player as both my younger brother and father played. I was drawn to the comradery, tenacity, grit and teamwork that came with the game. As women’s field lacrosse began to be introduced in Calgary, I naturally wanted to try it out as well and soon began to love it. I found my box lacrosse skills an asset to learning, developing and honing my skills in the field game.
Looking back on my years of playing, I would have to say the highlight of my minor career was scoring the first goal of the opening game at my first ever national tournament. This happened a year following my first Team Alberta tryout where I was cut. This ultimately created a drive inside of me to be better and not have the same result the following year. This event symbolizes the concept of striving to constantly be better and striving to match and exceed the set level of play established: two values I hold closely associated with my overall development. I participated in two box lacrosse national championships and four field lacrosse national championships, and played on four provincial championship teams for both box and field lacrosse. These opportunities have allowed me to understand what it is like to play at higher levels and match that intensity. My drive and passion for life and lacrosse have made me the athlete I am today, one that continues to improve, learn and lead in all aspects of my life, making me excited about the potential that my future holds both academically and athletically.
