Personal Statement

Hello. My name is Katie Angulo and I am currently a senior at Saint Ignatius College Prep in Chicago, Illinois. I was recently chosen for the Western Great Lakes National Team, competing in Baltimore on Memorial Day weekend, 2010. I have been playing sports all my life and picked up lacrosse just before freshman year. I began playing year-round lacrosse competively in September, 2008 and have been on the Varsity team at my school as a starter since I began. My strengths on the field are my speed, I have a good eye for the field, I am a team player and pass well, I have a strong shot and solid stick skills. I enjoy playing offense and defense, which is why I am a solid midfield player. I love to run and have great endurance because on the off season running is a big part of my training. I have been playing lacrosse since freshman year and have participated in Select (club) and Travel (Team 1 and now U19) every fall, winter, and summer seasons for Lakeshore Lacrosse. I am 5'8" and 130 pounds. Proud accomplishments in my athletic life have been the National Team designation, our 15-1 school record (we were #1 in our league)in 2010, the 12th in state record our high school varsity team won last year - the highest our school has ever been placed in history. Last year I guarded the strongest player on the opposing tournament team. It was an extremely exciting experience. Being a Varsity starter sophomore year was a huge step up for me from freshman year. I have also won MVP for 4 fall and summer seasons for my club and travel teams, as well as designation on the All-Tournament teams at The Vail Shootout and Indian Prairie. It is a dream of mine to be able to play lacrosse in college. I would like to go to a school that is best for me academically and athletically, and I am very open to location, size, and style. I will apply for financial aid in the process of my applications for college and lacrosse if it is offered to me. Academically, I would like to major in law, specifically criminology, studying to work for the FBI. Athletically, I am open to selective schools, looking for the one that fits me best and that allows me to play the game I love to the best of my ability. I'm a quick learner, respectful teammate, coachable, energetic and fun to be around, a leader on and off the field, and extremely determined and motivated in all areas of my life, which is a benefit to me on the field as well. I'm extremely friendly and open to growth and I am a part of many extra curriculars at my school including Student Council, Students Committed to Social Action, liturgy council, and President of the Diversity Club. I love lacrosse more than anything in the world and I will do anything it takes to get to where I want to be in the future. Thank you for being interested enough to read about me and I hope I am a good candidate for your school. I look forward to hearing all about your program.
