Hello, I'm Valerie Shaffer. I am currently a junior at North High School in Evansville, IN. The most important things to me are my family, my faith, and my school involvement. I enjoy joining many different clubs and activities both in school and with my church. I lead worship for different age groups consistently and serve as much as possible. I am interested in playing college lacrosse because I enjoy the competition, love the sport, and want to play for as long as I can.
I believe I am a good candidate for both college academics and college sports. I put in the hard work both on the field and in the classroom. As a child, I was taught the phrase "student-athlete" is in that order for a reason, you're a student first. My grades are a good representation of the effort I put in at school. Along with my academic level, I am also a two-sport athlete, which means I am constantly doing something active and athletic. I played basketball from second grade through my sophomore year and have played at both the freshman and junior varsity levels. I started playing lacrosse in seventh grade and instantly knew it was the sport I wanted to go all the way with.
As for characteristics that separate me from other athletes, I have great leadership qualities and am able to stay positive even in the worst situations. I am able to talk to teammates in a way that helps and corrects them, but doesn't belittle them. My positivity radiates among my team and everyone is able to get more into the game and focused on the next play.
Thanks,
Valerie Shaffer
