Personal Statement
Hi coach. My name is Renee Edge and I've been in the New Zealand U19 team training for the 2019 FIL U19 Women's Lacrosse World Championship for the past 20 months now, and am currently named as a non travelling reserve. In January of 2018 we traveled to Melbourne, Australia where we won the Southern Crosse Tournament for the first time, playing against U19 teams from Australia, Korea and Japan. And last December we travelled to Adelaide, Australia, where we had a 3 test series against the Australian U19 team, where we won our countries first ever game against an Australian team in extra time.
If I'm going to reach my potential in the game, I would really value the opportunity to be considered for a college team in the US, as once you leave high school in New Zealand, the opportunities to play lacrosse are very limited.
Last year I visited the US, attending two summer lacrosse camps. The first was the JFSLA NJ Lacrosse-Residential Academy with Jen Adams from 07/08/2018 - 07/12/2018, where I was awarded 'The Most Skilled Player Award'. And the second was the Duke University Super Elite Camp, which so many amazing players and coaches attended, allowing me to get a solid gauge on how I need to develop as a player, along with the skills and drills to help with me do so.
I enjoyed a very successful winter season here in New Zealand last year, with my school team, St Peter's School, Cambridge, winning our both our regional and national secondary schools competitions. I also played for our regions top U18 team, who won the New Zealand National U18 Rep Tournament, where I was wrapped to be selected in the Tournament Team. I was also nominated for a regional sports award, and selected to take part in our regional Waikato Academy of Young Achievers, which was founded to support the development and overall well-being of young athletes who aspire to achieve sporting excellence. This year I am Head Sports Prefect for my School, and Vice Captain of our Premier Lacrosse team.
Even though I have only played Lacrosse for 5 years, I have packed a lot of it in, and I never tire of training or playing this amazing game which combines so many of the things about sport I love so much. It contains elements of football and hockey, which I played, and it depends a great deal on team dynamics as everyone needs to work together for a common cause, along with speed and agility, which are attributes I have a strength in.
I realise contemplating an overseas player for your team is somewhat challenging, but if I feel your college is the right fit for me, I would love to hear from you.
Note: I'm in the US currently and will be attending the Maryland Lacrosse Showcase at the Blandair Regional Park in Columbia, Maryland on Sat 20th and Sun 21st July. My US mobile number is 646 525 9388 if you'd like to call while I'm here.
