I made the varsity lacrosse team my freshman year of high school, which was one of the top two teams in the state at the time. However, COVID-19 took away that varsity season and that opportunity. Like most schools, my team was unable to practice together, so many of us were stuck at home. I took it as an opportunity to improve my skills, so in my backyard I practiced stick skills, footwork, dodging, and shooting drills. I did this all through the summer until Fall lacrosse began. 2020 also allowed me to learn more about myself and who I am as a person. The experience shows that I can be versatile and adaptive, both athletically and mentally. I work with a personal trainer at least twice a week to improve my strength and endurance, and I am now a starting midfielder for my varsity team.
My dad was the lacrosse coach all through middle school and now an assistant coach for my high school. I constantly have to face the reality that others might judge my skills and abilities more critically. However, it also means that they were paying attention to me, so I have to lead by example. That expectation makes me work harder, and as a result, I've become a better player. My sports have taught me that accomplishments are enjoyed more when you do it with others. It has also taught me the value of teamwork, dedication, and leadership to motivate teammates to achieve team goals. I believe that my character will continue to push me to become a better player, student, and teammate so that I can continue to grow as a person. I want a program that will give me the tools to push me both academically and athletically. Maintaining advanced program honor student status as a four-sport athlete, I know that I have the discipline and work-ethic needed to be a valued member of any team.
