My name is Clare Martin, and I am part of the Class of 2022 at Kentucky Country Day School, an independent, rigorous college preparatory school located in Louisville, Kentucky. As an aspiring college athlete, I am committed to excelling both in the classroom and on the field.
I am currently a three-year varsity team member and two-year starter for my high school team and three-year starter for my club team. I play low defense for both my varsity high school team (#25) and my club team (Bluegrass Premier, #2) under Coach Pat McAnulty. I am really excited about the upcoming season and have been working hard in the off season to improve my skills. Additionally, looking ahead to the summer, I am planning to attend the following tournaments: Southeast Cup in Winston-Salem, NC (June 12-13), Capital Cup in Richmond, VA (July 9-12) and The Ohio Lacrosse Tournament in Columbus, OH (July 17-18). I have compiled a highlight film in the link below, which includes the 2019 Presidents Cup Tournament, my first high school game of the 2020 season (prior to the season cancellation) and most recently, the 2020 Ohio Lacrosse Festival tournament. I will continue to add film for this season.
Academically, at the conclusion of my sophomore year, I ended with a 4.19 GPA which included an AP Government and Politics class where I scored a 5 on the AP exam. Currently, half way through my junior year, I have a 4.11 GPA with a course load including; AP English, AP Chemistry, AP United States History, Advanced Spanish 4, Advanced Studio Ceramics, and Pre-Calculus.
Outside of lacrosse and school, I have been active in volunteer work. I was fortunate to work for a program called Educational Justice. The program pairs high-achieving students with low-income students for tutoring one hour weekly. This program was amazing, and knowing that I was able to make a difference for just one child was an incredible feeling. Additionally, I volunteered in CA through a program called ARCC, where I was able to work with the homeless population in San Francisco as well as working to repair and reconstruct trails in Northern California. This summer I will be doing an internship with KORT Physical Therapy, where I am looking to learn more about the physical therapy field.
