I have grown up in a family who loves sports, always playing, coaching and watching whatever sport that may be in season. I started playing basketball at the age of 4. Being the youngest in the family, everyone thought it was amusing that I was very competitive and determined, believing I could do everything as good or better than them. I often competed and won against the boys.
I continue to have that competitive determination. I love to win. Winning to me has a lot of meanings; doing my personal best, helping others do their best, playing and practicing as a team in order to do our best. I try to use this thought process both on and off the field. I have been taught that hard work pays off.
I first started playing lacrosse in my freshman year of high school. In middle school, track was my sport of choice in the spring. But I liked that lacrosse was a team sport and decided to give it a try. I loved the sport from the very beginning realizing very quickly that my previous experience of playing basketball, soccer and track would be very valuable. I even recruited my friends to play the sport in my freshman and sophomore years. I have always been very fast, agile, athletic and tall (5'-10"), all being very useful attributes to succeed on the lacrosse field. I have played center, midfield and attack from the very beginning and love the challege of defending our goal. I was selected as captain of our JV team as a freshman and have been a team leader ever since. Not only as the leading scorer, but also by keeping the team informed of schedules, texting motivational quotes before games, arranging team bonding events and creating motivational music CD's to "pump us up". I believe a team is like a family and should work and play together.
I've been encouraged since my freshman year to pursue a "dream" of playing college lacrosse. I have kept the dream alive by attending summer camps, playing fall and winter indoor lacrosse leagues, arranging team practices and recently completed the summer season playing with the Michigan Cyclone Travel Team that included a number of trips to the east coast playing agianst top competition.
After my Junior year, I hold the school record for career goals and I am second in (5) additional records. This past year I was voted the team MVP and selected first team all-conference. I have a gym membership and have participated in athletic conditioning courses at school. I very much enjoyed competing against the boys in these classes! Helping my team to be the best we can be and playing lacrosse in college are both goals of mine. Please see my video on this website, additional video is available upon request.
Although my GPA and ACTscore are not what I would like them to be, school and education is very important to me. This past semester I was able to accomplish a GPA of 3.88. That felt very good. I have always struggled with math and sometimes panic at the thought of a math quiz or test. I have worked with tutors, fellow classmates, but continue to struggle with the subject. I know I will continue to have to work hard, particularly in college. I like history and english/writing classes and do much better in those subjects.
At this time I would like to pursue a career in Business.
