Hello, my name is Katherine Kanaskie and the main goal for my collegiate future is to have academics that support what I decide to officially study. As well, I would love to play lacrosse at a school that gives me the motivation to work hard on and off the field. With the work ethic I have now of maintaining a high GPA while doing various activities, I believe I can the handle the responsibility of being a collegiate athlete on a team.
My interest in lacrosse started in 8th grade when I was only playing soccer and wanting to branch out my athletics in my freshmen year of high school. When I saw the other girls who I was playing soccer with also competing in other sports, it really inspired me to take the chance. Luckily, I decided to play even though I was definitely the younger and weaker member on my high school team at first. However, that taught me to work hard to let me soon discover that I had some natural ability at lacrosse thanks to the many years of playing soccer. Afterwards, seeing other players I knew of and doing research, I realized in 10th grade I could have a chance to play collegiate lacrosse, which is still even now giving me the confidence boost to work hard for my own athletic well-being. Honestly, not just lacrosse players, but other athletes of all sports around me give me the drive and motivation to be a highly academic student-athlete.
On the lacrosse field, I am able to help teams with being able to play defense and midfield when needed. From playing soccer, competing in indoor track in 9th grade, and doing a specialized training program, I really do now have the speed and endurance to be capable of competing well in a game of lacrosse. I really understand the basis of being in condition, so I am consistently involved in athletic activities to help myself as much as I can. Additionally, my knowledge of soccer carried over in lacrosse with the idea of how the attack, midfield, defense, and goalie in lacrosse need to function in order to work properly in game situations. Overall, I hope you will consider me in being a possible future member of your team.
