Hello, my name is Mykenzie Shymko and I have been playing box lacrosse for 8 years. I live in a small city called Moose Jaw, which has a population of about 37 thousand people and is located in Saskatchewan,Canada. I am the youngest of four children and look up to each of my siblings for their personal qualities. I’m currently 15 years old and I attended a local high school called Central Collegiate where I am a grade 10 student.
Being from Canada I have not had many opportunity to be involved in women's field lacrosse. In the winter of 2021/2022 I was given the opportunity to attend camps and try outs for a female field lacrosse team to represent Saskatchewan in Canada Women's Field Lacrosse National Championship. I enjoyed learning new skills and being able to transfer over my box lacrosse skills to the game of field. Unfortunately the team was unable to make Nationals, but I believe I took away skills to help me in my quest of being a Field Lacrosse player along with a new respect and love for the game of Field Lacrosse. I'm starting my journey with an open mind and more experience than I ever had before.
For the last 8 years I have been playing on all male teams as the only female.
This past year I played for Saskatchewan's first ever female U18 box lacrosse team, and in doing so I made history, made new friends and lots of memories.
Being a very confident, strong minded leader along with my strong skills I was named captain for my women's U18 SK team, which was a huge accomplishment being so young.
I lead my team as captain at Niagara Falls, Ontario 2022 summer games which was one of the best experiences of my life.
I am also a very hard working and competitive person on and off the field with a GPA of 92.00/100.00. I have a strong mind set and big goals and I am able to strive for my personal best and more, in lacrosse and school. I always try my best to make sure to uplift my teammates and to be a positive role model.
My love for the sport has also made me do things like growing the game for our younger generations and future athletes by helping coaching and teaching new skills.
I am a referee for my hometown lacrosse league. This has taught me more about the game than I knew before and has taught me how to respect the rules of the game and the officials.
Hobbies and other sports I enjoy outside of lacrosse and school, are basketball, last year I played on both the Junior and Senior teams and our elite city team. I work out and strengthen 5 days a week, I have a personal trainer that works with me three of those day. I love to spend time with my family in the mountains skiing and snowmobiling during the winter months and on the lake enjoying many water sports throughout the summer.
Overall I'm excited to engage in the sport of women’s field lacrosse and learn and evolve into an overall amazing student athlete. Thank you and I'm looking forward to hearing from you!
