My dreams, goals and aspirations are far reaching…in the classroom, on the sports field, and on the snow, the drive to help others and make a positive impact on the world around me. Excelling in schools, taking AP and honors classes, and achieving high grades is a goal that I have dedicated myself to work towards. It is my goal to study pre-med and to pursue a career in medicine. I am who I am today because of my life-long involvement in sports and competition. I have lettered in two high school sports, tennis and lacrosse, for my freshman, sophomore and junior years. I was the only freshman selected for the Utah/Idaho National team, which competed in May 2011 in US Lacrosse Nationals in New York. On the slopes, I compete in freestyle skiing, and I have qualified for USASA Nationals for the 2010-11 and 2012 seasons. I have dedicated my time to actively helping my community and those in need. I started a fundraising business, SnowCaps, which I have raised money for the National Ability Center, the Special Olympics, and Primary Children’s Hospital. As a Junior Volunteer at the IHC, Park City Medical Center, I work a weekly three-hour shift. As a member of National Honor Society, I am involved in frequent charitable events.
I have always been told that life has no limitations except the one you make, and I try to make the most of each day, as you never know what life has in stall for you. Unfortunately, this became a reality for me a month ago. After qualifying for freestyle nationals, I fell and completely severed my ACL. I had surgery and I had to commit the next 6 months to my rehabilitation. I have made the commitment to face this challenge and I will use my newfound time to my advantage; I travelled to Peru on a language immersion/humanitarian trip; and I attended a 12-day Medical Forum through the National Youth Leadership to be held at UC Berkeley. These two summer opportunities reinforced my love for learning languages and my desire to study pre-med and to go onto medical school one day. I also realized how much I missed my lacrosse and my teammates.
I believe my accident, a bump in the road on my drive to success in life, will open up opportunities, which will help me develop as a mature, well-rounded teenager. I am learning that “sometimes, struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If we were to go through our lives without any obstacles, we would be crippled. We would not be as strong as what we could have been. Give every opportunity a chance, leave no room for regrets. ”
