Personal Statement
Playing lacrosse has helped shaped me into the person I am today.
I started lacrosse in second grade after seeing my older brother play it for years. I always knew I wanted to play lacrosse and once I started I never looked back. Over the years I have had many different types of coaches and have played on winning and losing teams. Lacrosse has taught me important skills, such as to work hard and never give up, but to also be humble and celebrate the little things. The most valuable thing lacrosse has taught me is how to be a leader. Being able to keep my teammates in high spirits in a close game and help them see where we can improve has translated into my school and community. In sixth grade I joined ASB (Associated Student Body) and by eighth grade I was ASB President of the entire middle school. The position came with a lot of responsibility and I had to make crucial decisions to benefit my school and community.
My love for the sport has motivated me in the classroom.
Most kids are motivated by their parents to get good grades in fear of disappointing them, but that's not me. Although my parents want me to succeed, I motivate myself. I think of every test and good grade as a step closer to my dream of playing college lacrosse. My busy lacrosse and basketball schedule has helped me prioritize my time and be more efficient with my studies. First comes academics, then sports then fun. When time permits, I volunteer with Debateable, as a judge for elementary school debate tournaments.
I am an explosive player with a unique talent.
If you ever watch me play lacrosse you will notice I play the entire field, looking to be in the right place at the right time, excelling in both offense and defense. When playing offensively, you will find me at goal-line-extended, ready to strike with a crease roll. Propelled by my speed, my left-handed shots take goalies by surprise and more often than not result in a score. I am a true-lefty, but take the draw like a right-handed player. As a defensive midfielder I take pride in causing turnovers with interceptions and clearing the ball up the field. I am fast and I am dangerous!
