Thank you for reading my statement! I began as a Novice rower in 2019 fall-2020 spring. I had the athletic abilities and technique, just not the numbers on the erg. I transitioned over to become a Novice coxswain summer of 2020 because I love the sport and how much it provides structure as well as growth in leading and problem solving abilities. Over the fall of 2020 the races we participated in were mostly club scrimmages.
By Spring 2021, I had grown so much as a coxswain in my ability to assess situations and lead a group to do their absolute best. I coxed at regionals in Saratoga, NY in the A boat 8+ and won both heats and finals. In June 2021, I was selected to go to Youth Nationals in Sarasota, FL winning 1st in the B final in the U17 8+ category with first year Novices.
Currently, as a 2nd year coxswain I am on Varsity. In the fall season of 2021 I coxed in the Junior Girls 4x category at Head of the Fish and we placed 1st, and coxed our Women's 2V 4+ placing 2nd (we were only 2 seconds behind our coxed 1V 4+ that was in the race before prior).
