Between my freshman and sophmore years I attended a summer rowing camp in my hometown of Stuart, FL. This was my first experience with rowing - I was immediately drawn to it and, one year later, am in love with the sport and am fueled with a desire to be great. My goal is to row in college at the Division 1 level as a lightweight.
Within my first year of rowing, my 2K erg time went from above 10 minutes to its current 7:55 as of June, 2024, I earned a seat on our second varsity eight and by the end of the season was seat-racing for the first varsity. I rowed 2- seat on our club's U17 eight which came in second at States and competed in the SE Regionals. I rowed stroke seat doubles at Sculling States, coming in first in the Petit Final. I draw on these successes in constantly asserting my increasing potential as a rower. Each day, at practice or not, I work my very hardest to become cleaner, faster, and stronger with each stroke I take both on the erg or on the water. Always stirring like a rip current, I will never settle.
I am very coachable and have proven to be able to learn new skills in the blink of an eye, keeping my ears, eyes, and mind open at all times to nourish both mental and physical growth with each dawning day. I won my club's "U17 Women's Most Improved Rower" award - my Coach had these words to say about the award: “Lexie is has an impressive work ethic. We first saw this when she joined, on the erg and on the water. She has been one of the most coachable kids we have seen and has the ability to disconnect her emotions from the pain she is going through when she is rowing at full speed during a 2k on the erg and on the water. She is very consistent, positive and is competitive.”
In terms of academics, I have achieved all A's throughout both middle and high school, the latter exclusively in either honors or AP classes. I was the first person at my school to be elected President of the Yearbook as a Junior, and am now currently Senior President this year. I am also the President of my school's chapter of National Spanish Honor Society.
Beyond all of this, I believe the most valuable thing about me to a college program is this: caring. I care about my grades and success in school. I care about my reputation. I care about my performance regardless of what boat I am placed in. I care about my erg tests. I care about our race placements. I care about that medal. I care about my teammates. I care about my coaches. I care about rowing. I care. And I am not nor ever will be embarrassed or "too cool" to show it, and to own all of it. I love what I do, and I will never beat around the bush to express it.
