Throughout my athletic career, I have played several different sports; cross country, soccer, and track and field, but it wasn’t until winter of my freshman year I started rowing and felt an immediate connection. The competition, drive, the pain, and the synchronicity on the water is like no other feeling. It is an extremely tough sport with an incredibly strenuous training program. At first I was truly struggling to adjust, but I didn’t let my 9:16.3 2k score discourage me or hold me back from improving. There was a drive that began to push me towards improvement. Over the next several months, I improved my 2k score by over a minute to an 8:08.2 and was provided the opportunity to row the varsity eight, varsity four, varsity quad, and varsity lightweight quad that placed 2nd at the 2017 FSRA Sculling States Championships. I have continued to improve and feel I still have tremendous growth opportunity. Rowing has become a true passion and something I want to continue at the collegiate level. At my current pace, I am confident I will continue to grow and look forward to reaching for the stars. In addition to a passion for rowing, I am just as passionate about my academics. I am in the International Baccalaureate program with a 4.67 GPA. My grades have put me at the top of my class and I have been honored in several different clubs. I have been inducted into National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Honor Society and more. I am also a member of the Making Character Count Committee which has competed in the Harvard Making Caring Common challenge for high school advisory boards. I enjoy math and science and am looking forward to exploring neuroscience in college. I am also committed to helping those in my community. In 2014, in honor of my late grandfather, I founded a nonprofit organization called Carrollwood Helpers Inc. It’s an organization dedicated to helping those in need in my community (elderly neighbors, those who have been injured, or those that just need a helping hand). Within the past year, the organization has expanded from my own neighborhood to three additional neighborhoods. I have added many volunteers, and have numerous clients we serve on a regular basis. It’s a grassroots effort of people helping people that I hope will continue to grow. I recently was selected to participate in the Leukemia Lymphoma Society's Student of the Year campaign, raising in excess of $17,000 in 7 weeks in support of finding the cure for blood cancers. I have no doubt that my dedication and drive towards everything I do has, and will continue set me apart. I am a dedicated, hardworking, teachable athlete. I am thrilled to be entering this new chapter and excited to see what opportunities lie ahead.
