Personal Statement
Hi, my name is Lauren Carey,
I am fairly new to rowing, I have completely fallen in love with the sport, it all began when I was in my local supermarket and my coach spotted me for my height and asked me if I would like to row.
I row at a club called Grassy Park Rowing Club, and we are fairly small, there is about 15 of us, only 4 of them girls. I would love to gain more experience because I want to learn loads, I have not been rowing for long and am still new to the rowing community and environment. But at the same time, I want to improve my rowing and better myself as a person. My main boat is the single skull and my double so I would also love to experience bigger boats, because there are only 4 girls in my club, so an eight would be amazing!
So what makes me different? I deeply dedicated and passionate about the sport. I am coachable and and always eager to learn. I am also stubborn in the way in which I am intensely focused and will not be happy with anything other than my best performance on the water or on the ergo. I always work hard and love to face a challenge in school, on the ergo and on the water. I have also have learnt to deal with my height and learn to use to advantage in this sport, being 6ft 1 at fifteen provides its challenges (clothing never fits)! I am punctual and strive to always put my best foot forward!
