Personal Statement
Rowing Is my passion. I love it. Through this sport, I have met my best friends and made a name for myself. I broke records and found something that I want to take as far as I can professionally. I know rowing for a D1 college in America is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that could change my whole life, and the thought of that brings me much excitement.
Regarding racing and training, I've got a strong mindset – I tackle challenges head-on. Rowing has toughened me, teaching me to push through pain and find strength in discomfort. I thrive in team settings, loving that rush of accomplishment when we reach our goals together. Winning gold and breaking course records with my crew at the Aon Maadi Cup in April 2023 was a huge highlight. It wasn't just about the medal; it was a testament to our teamwork and determination. And when I'm off the water, you'll find me pushing the erg hard, trying to hit the best splits and feeling very satisfied when I nail them. Whether hitting splits or smashing a piece, I'm all about setting goals and going after them.
When my racing or training schedule allows I like to get out on my road bike, hike in the Southern Alps and in winter snow ski. I have always been attracted to sports and hobbies which challenge me physically and are demanding technically. My parents are very active and from a very young age have taken me and my sister on all sorts of outdoor adventures across New Zealand and abroad. You need to ask me about our recent multi-day sea kayaking 'adventure' on the Great Barrier Reef in Australia! These adventures have taught me so much about myself and helped me grow and become the person I am.
Looking ahead, a non-negotiable is to attend a college where I can pursue a valuable degree that will shape my future while also competing at a high level on the rowing course. I will not limit myself to any particular options and am determined to find the college that offers me the best fit academically, and athletically and which aligns with my values.
