Personal Statement
From Australia, rowing is not just a sport for me—it’s a passion that shapes my daily life. My name is Bethany Petie, a dedicated rower from Australia, currently striving to catch the eye of U.S. college rowing coaches.
At the age of 15, I have already managed to achieve a 2km erg time of 7:45. This milestone is merely a part of my ongoing journey to refine my technique and enhance my stamina, with the goal of continual improvement by the time I am ready for college recruitment.
My fascination with U.S. colleges was ignited by tales from family friends who experienced the vibrant campus life and competitive sports culture. This dream has grown into a goal, fueled by my desire to compete at the highest levels of college rowing. With a current GPA of 92.14, I am as committed to my academics as I am to my training, ensuring that I bring both intellectual and athletic value to a college team.
I have had the privilege of competing in state and national level competitions, navigating both single and double sculls, as well as crew boats and eights. My versatility across different boat classes is a testament to my adaptability and eagerness to meet every challenge head-on. Occupying various seats in an eight has not only taught me about the dynamics of team synergy but also about the leadership and collaboration required to succeed.
Rowing is more than just a sport to me it is a community and a lifestyle that continually teaches me about resilience, teamwork, and the pursuit of excellence. My aspiration is to be part of a collegiate rowing team that challenges me to grow both as an athlete and a scholar. I am eager to bring my skills and passion for rowing to a U.S. college, where I can contribute to and learn from a community as driven as I am.
As I continue to develop my rowing career and academic pursuits, I am looking for a college that not only supports my athletic aspirations but also enriches my academic knowledge. I am excited about the possibility of combining my education with my passion for rowing, making every stroke on the water count towards a future of possibilities.
