Personal Statement
Hello
My name is Eva Robinson. I live with my parents, Greg and Maria, my twin sister Alex and my brother Andre. We live on a lifestyle property (10 acres) in North Canterbury, New Zealand, where we have a dog, a flock of sheep and some chickens. I am 6’3’’ tall and weigh 177lbs.
I attend Villa Maria College, (Catholic Girls High School) in Christchurch, New Zealand, and am the Sports Captain for Ennis House.
I am in my first season of rowing. I absolutely love the sport and have been thrilled with my progress to date. My recent 2000m erg time has cemented some excellent training sessions - 7min 34sec (please note that it was only 3 weeks after having covid). I will be competing in the Maardi Cup (National Secondary School Championships) later in the year.
I am happy to row anywhere in the boat but have been training at Stroke for the Open Women’s Novice Team. Our school places more focus on sculling, but I can also sweep (both sides).
In addition to rowing, I am a North Canterbury Representative for Basketball U19. While a small region, we are very strong, and came 4th in the U17 National competition. In 2020/21, I was part of the New Zealand U17 training squad. I have also represented my country playing in the New Zealand Basketball U14 side. Last year I attended the Upper South Island trials for NZ Netball Secondary School. I am looking to be Villa Maria Basketball Captain this year.
I love the friendship, support and physicality that all sport brings to my life. It gives me tremendous satisfaction to be part of a great team that performs at its absolute best at the moment of competition. I bring a cool-headed approach to all sports that I play - for example, I am often required to close-out games for my Basketball teams.
Over the last two years I have volunteered on a regular basis with Red Cross, in their local shop. Unfortunately, I have been struggling to do that so far this year due to sporting and academic commitments.
I am interested in pursuing a career in Commerce, and hope that obtaining a scholarship to a College in the United States will allow me to grow as a rowing athlete, while laying the foundation for a career in Finance.
I am an excellent team player and bring a positive attitude to all sessions to help build up my crew mates and teams. I love to perfect new skills and training techniques. I pride myself on being a hard and physical athlete who can dig deep for the whole game
