Personal Statement
Hi my name is Brigitte Kappler and I am from South Africa
I have been a dedicated and passionate member of the rowing community for 5 years now. i have been rowing for the St Stithians Girls Rowing club, I was the vice captain as well as the acting captain of St Stithians Girls Rowing for the 2021 -2022 season. I am hard working, gregarious and work really well in a team. i matriculate in December of 2022 but only get my marks back in mid February of 2023 so i would only be able to join an American university in august of 2023.
During the course of last year I made it into the Junior National Training squad to be chosen for the world championships but unfortunately I did not make the final cut.
At the start of May this year i competed in the selection regatta where, I have qualified and have been selected as part of the Junior National squad for South Africa.
I travelled to Italy for the U19 Junior World Championships in July of 2022. I qualified in the JW4x and placed 2nd in the B final to Italy with a 6:39.14
This past season (2021 -2022) has been one of my top performing seasons.
October 2021 - Gauteng Championships:
Gold - quadruple sculls
Silver - single sculls
Silver - double sculls
December 2021 - National Boatrace Regatta of 4km
Silver - quadruple sculls
February 2022 - National Buffalo regatta + Selborne Sprints
gold - single sculls (2km)
Silver - single sculls (500m)
Gold - doubles sculls (500m)
bronze - quadruple sculls (500m)
I have pulled a 7:34.5 for my most recent 2km erg trial bearing in mind that I am 1600m above sea level. I am mainly a sculler but do row on stroke side for sweep boats.
