UPDATED (August 26, 2023): I was voted to be Team Captain of our Club Rowing Team.
Updated (July 17, 2023): I completed the Penn AC Gold Performance Rowing Camp. The camp was absolutely the most fun and productive 5 weeks that I have experienced. Since I started rowing only 15 months ago, I learned that I can row with some of the best rowers in the country. I participated in the IDR and the Summer Youth Nationals in Cincinnati. I know that I will continue to develop into a solid D-1 rower!
Updated (June 23, 2023): I started the Penn AC Gold Performance camp this past Saturday; I'm having fun and and I am learning a lot. The adjustment from sculling to sweeping is happening quicker than I thought. At this point, I know that I can compete at the higher D-1 levels. Clearly, my "pre-camp" conditioning, raw physical strength, and athleticism is paying off.
Updated (May 24, 2023): I just posted my updated 2K ERG SCORE OF 7:34.4 verified on the Concept 2. I've increased my workout regimen the past 7 weeks. Working on my aerobic fitness and rowing a Single 2K at the Dogwood and the Southeast Championships. I continue to get stronger and faster. I "move the boat". Looking forward to Summer Camp in Philadelphia.
Updated (April 19, 2023): I am very excited to announce that I have been accepted to the Penn AC Gold U19 Summer Rowing Camp. This will give me a huge opportunity to learn and practice and compete with some of the best rowers in the country. I started rowing about 12 months ago, my technique has improved; although, the Penn AC Gold Camp will get me to the next level. Academically, I will end my Junior year of high school with about a 4.0 GPA from a very rigorous private school.
Updated (March 11, 2023): My Club Coach tested me for 10 Stroke Max Watts, I scored 535! Also, he tested me on the One-Minute ERG test; I had 1:39.3 with 41 strokes per minute and 302 meters!
Updated (Dec. 18, 2022): I recorded a new PR of 7:47 (verified).
I played travel basketball for many years; then, I decided to row. The first time on the water, I realized how much I loved to row. I started rowing in March 2022. I just clocked a 7:47 2K ERG (verified). The Club coaches and I are working to improve my technical skills, which will enhance my ERG scores. The coach told me that I have good times; although it's "raw" strength.
I know that my times will continue to improve with better technique. i will continue to get stronger and faster!
Since I have been rowing for only 12 months; one of the club coaches believes that a 7:20 2K is a realistic goal; especially with improved technique. The club coaches are impressed with my natural strength and athleticism.
Playing travel basketball and other sports for many years has translated into rowing; due to work ethic and dedication.
In addition, please review the video of me rowing a single with only 8 weeks experience. I was told by an experienced Rowing Coach that I have a "HIGH CEILING" with a lot of potential and that I "MOVE THE BOAT".
I realize that I'm new to rowing. I've learned a lot in only 12 months and I'm committed to being a top D-1 rower.
My future goals and aspirations are to row at the collegiate level at a university that best suits the school, rowing program, and me academically and athletically. As a multi-sport athlete, rowing has checked a lot of boxes. Rowing is competitive, team oriented, and a physical challenge.
I attended my first rowing camp in Florida this past June 2022. I began camp rowing in the novice boat and by the end of the week, I "earned" my way up to the 1 v 8 boat in 3 days. I did this without any sweeping experience. I had only been sculling in singles, 2 and 4 person boats.
Academically, I stay on top of my schoolwork. I take mostly AP, Advanced, and Honors classes in a rigorous and challenging private High School environment. I was inducted into the National Honor Society.
It is my desire to contribute for a collegiate rowing program; by being a quality teammate and committed to the coaching staff. I believe that with this mindset, I will be able to achieve great things on the water and in the classroom.
All my coaches are impressed with my commitment, hard work, athleticism, strength, and coachability. Also, my dedication to the success of the team and the coaching staff.
My father played baseball in college; he teaches me the importance of representing the institution, identifying opportunities to make the TEAM better and winning for the coaching staff. My dad emphasizes that I need to be the teammate that facilitates team unity and team chemistry, which are critical to winning. “Work hard and earn it!!!!”. I’m committed to that motto.
