My name is Katherine Cromly and I am a senior at Perrysburg High School in Perrysburg, Ohio. I have been rowing since my freshman year and I am 100% driven to continue my rowing career in college! I am a multi-sport athlete (Varsity Swim Team), member of student council, National Honor Society, Student Visionary supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and work as a Red Cross certified lifeguard at my local YMCA. I also hold a 4.02 GPA while taking honors classes as a 3 season athlete. I love to be challenged and make an impact in the teams I am committed to athletically and academically.
Why do I love rowing? Rowing has challenged me and taught me so many valuable lessons about myself. I have a very strong work ethic and mental toughness that was developed from swimming and has effectively supported my growth in rowing. I LOVE working as a team more than anything! It is the best feeling when everyone on the boat is in sync and giving it everything they have for each other. I will never quit on my team or my goals! I started fall season with a goal to break 8 minutes on my 2k, and on 10/16/23 (our first and only 2k test of the fall season) I pulled a 7:51 and then on 5/15/24, I dropped 9 seconds and pulled a 7:42! My previous time from spring 2023 was 8:01 - a 19 second drop!
Since fall of my sophomore year, I have earned the stroke seat for my V8+ and V4+. The stroke seat is a position I am extremely confident in holding onto, as I value the leadership role and strong connection to my coxswain. In the past two years my team has experienced our most successful seasons and my boats continue to PR and placed well in regattas! This year I was awarded the captain role following an interview process with my coaches and vote from my teammates. I dedicated time every week to focus on team spirit, organization and leadership. I was also named to The Midwest Scholastic Rowing Association (MRSA) All-Region 1st Team and to the MRSA Academic Athlete Award Honor Roll.
I have spent the past three summers attending camps so that I can grow and become more competitive in this sport. In 2022 I attended the Naval Academy Rowing Camp and it was a great opportunity to work with coaches from Notre Dame, Tennessee and the Naval Academy. In 2023 I was accepted into the US Rowing Olympic Development Program where I spent 2 weeks in Chattanooga rowing with amazing young women from all over the country. It was the best experience of my rowing career! I didn't even mind getting up at 5:30am for morning practice. I trained in every position and worked harder than I ever have in my life! At the end of camp race, my A8+ came in first by open water and my pair came in second! It was during this camp I made the commitment to work as hard as I can to be recruited and continue rowing in college!
I love being part of a team and I am a great candidate for a collegiate team because I have the drive to work hard, support my team and win!! I plan to major in Biology with a focus in the medical field working with kids (pediatrician, oncology, etc.). I am passionate about helping kids and doing everything I can to keep them physically and mentally healthy. I am focused to be successful both academically and athletically and to carry those achievements with me throughout my life.
Thank you for reading my statement and for your consideration! I look forward to talking with you soon!
- Katherine
