As a senior in high school, I am the top varsity coxswain for the second year in a row and team captain on the men’s team at Baylor School in Chattanooga, Tennessee. I have more experience coxing men, but I am open to coxing on a women’s team as I have experience in that realm as well. I happen to live about 20 minutes from the Head of the Hooch location, so I am very familiar with its course as well as the course in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. I have also competed in Camden, New Jersey for the 2022 SRAA National Championship regatta, where my teammates and I (as a sophomore) placed 5th in the men’s JV 4+ category.
If I had to describe myself and my dynamic on a team, I would say that I am coachable, driven, dependable, and resilient. My goal when I sit in the coxswain seat is to make my boat faster.
Here is a link to an announcement about my Congressional Gold Medal Award that provides some insight into my initiative as a coxswain: https://www.baylorschool.org/news-detail-homepage/~board/school-news/post/mary-evelyn-pearce-24-earns-congressional-gold-medal-award.
