Tara Cunnington '24 Recruiting Profile

Hi, my name is Tara Cunnington I’m a Sophomore and 16 years old. I was first introduced to rowing the summer of 2017 with a 1 month learn-to-row camp. I loved it! For 3 years I sculled Oct’s on the non-competitive middle school team and rowed a single. This is my first year (Fall 21’- Spring 22’) sweeping and racing competitively on the High School team.

Throughout my life I’ve played a lot of sports including soccer, skiing, swimming, and triathlons. However, rowing is my passion because I like the rhythm and how the boat feels when everyone is together and in-sync. The boat feels like a well-oiled machine! I also like the way rowing makes me feel – strong and healthy; and it connects me with the outdoors.

Rowing has taught me the value of discipline and hard work. After CRASH B, I realized how much work I needed to do. During the 2021 season, I dropped 10 splits in my 2k. This progress reinforces my moto “always earned, never given” which dates back to when I was 5yo competing in kid’s triathlons.

My ultimate career goal is to become a surgeon. I’ve had this dream since 2nd grade. To further pursue my medical knowledge, I have volunteered in the community providing healthy food during the pandemic to foodbanks, school districts, and Native American tribes. Through shadowing medical professionals and attending a rigorous medical summer camp, EXPLO, I have learned some of the ins-and-outs of the medical field.
