I first started playing soccer when I was ten years old. After my first year, I volunteered to play goalkeeper and, to be completely honest, it was because of my love-hate relationship with running. I have since fallen in love with the position. Through playing soccer, I have learned that soccer, and specifically goalkeeping, is just as much of a mental game as it is physical. It has challenged me to work hard because there is always a new strategy or skill to master and a new opponent to study. It's important to step on that field everyday, whether it is for a game or a practice, with your whole heart and mind. Nothing in sports is handed to you and that's a mental challenge that you have to work through. Soccer also provides a community of teammates and coaches that I believe are very important. Whether it's encouraging them or them encouraging me, teammates should be there to support each other through every moment of life. I want to attend a college where I can continue playing soccer and pursue a degree in Exercise Science to one day become an athletic trainer. Athletic training is something that has become increasingly more important to me and I want to help others reach their goals. I am looking forward to meeting new people, forming new relationships, and gaining new knowledge on the daily as I grow closer and closer to my freshman year of college and soccer.
